I have known Dr Royer since 1994 when Dr Royer was Chairman of Medical
Group Board of Governors and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs
at Henry Ford Health Care System in Detroit, Michigan.
During his tenure at HFHS, his visionary leadership, passion for patient
care, and tireless service to the medical field made him the “darling”
of medical staff. He was most popular and well respected and followed
by all levels of HFHS employees.
Subsequent to that, his complete devotion to his leadership as CEO CHRISTUS
Health lead the organization on a path to excellence, making it one of
the 10 largest Catholic health care system in the US, as well as, Mexico.
He was named one of Most Power Physician Executives in health care by Modern
Physician Magazine for three consecutive years in a row (2006-2008). In
addition, in 2011 the American Hospital Association bestowed upon him
it's highest honor - the Distinguished Service Award - for his more
than four decades of relentless persuit of knowledge caring for patients,
students, and health system operations and strategies. His simple way
of living, generous nature ,and compassion has won hearts of patients
and doctors alike. He and his family made many contributions to care for
humanity which is demonstrated by his heading a team of doctors and nurses
in Haiti during the fourth week following a recent earthquake. This speaks
for his love for sick and needy, and proof of his great leadership abilities.
Last year I had the great honor to invite him to Tulare Medical Center
in Tulare, California for a consultative visit. Again, here his knowledge
of health care laws and regulations, communication skills, and power of
persuasion were unmatched, and he quickly galvanized the whole community,
Board, and medical staff around the necessary pathway for sustainable
success. Dr. Royer is always generous with his time and counsel, and never
too busy to pause to help. I'm honored to know and call him my friend.
For me, and many others, he is my hero.
I'm proud to know that he is starting the consulting firm, Royer -Maddox
-Herron Advisors. we need his expertise and that of his partners during
this most challenging time in healthcare.
