Partner
Peter Maddox, is a partner in Royer-Maddox-Herron Advisors, specializing
in healthcare strategic development. He has more than 37 years of experience
in the health care field. He served as executive vice president and chief
operating officer for Incarnate Word Health System (IWHS). During his
tenure there, he acted as project leader for the creation of the co-sponsored
health ministry between IWHS and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate
Word in Houston that is now CHRISTUS Health. CHRISTUS, an international
health services ministry, has nearly 30,000 associates, encompasses over
forty hospitals and dozens of other health services in seven states in
the US and six states in Mexico together totaling over $4.6 Billion in assets.
At CHRISTUS, Peter was responsible for various areas within the organization
to include organizational and business development, mergers and acquisitions,
joint ventures, and international expansion; CHRISTUS’ strategic
direction; the organization’s advocacy and public policy initiatives
and direction; and co-oversight of operational performance for several
entities. He is recognized for applying the discipline of futuring to
its healthcare practice and strategies. He was responsible for establishing
two Futures Task Force initiatives within CHRISTUS which identified emerging
global trends that would shape the world, the health care industry, and
the eventual delivery of services by health care providers. CHRISTUS’
approach to futuring relied on scenario development as well as viewing
first hand health care models and practices in Canada, India and Mexico
and, when coupled with other techniques, led to the successful strategic
positioning of CHRISTUS Health into the year 2020 and beyond.
Before joining IWHS, Peter was vice president for Santa Rosa Health Care
Corporation in San Antonio and for Healthplex, Inc., in Dallas. He also
served the University of Texas Health Cancer Center--M.D. Anderson Hospital,
where he was responsible for the management, liaison and coordination
of institutional activities, programs, and research projects for the organization’s
cancer prevention division. While at the University of Mississippi Medical
School, he was responsible for developing a maternal/child health program
utilizing certified nurse midwives throughout the six southeastern-most states.
He has extensive experience in governance having served on several boards
for private corporations, and not-for-profit organizations. A sample of
these include service on the boards of: Texas Hospital Association; Catholic
Health Association of the United States; Bon Secours Health System-which
has health services along the east coast of the US; Optum Insight Inc-a
subsidiary of United Health; Baylor University School of Social Work;
and the Texas Water Mission-providing safe water in Honduras. He served
on the board of the CHRISTUS St Vincent in Santa Fe and as Chair of the
Board for the Grupo CHRISTUS Muguerza in Monterrey Mexico.
